We are thrilled to announce an open call for participation in our signature event, “Surfaces of War, Surfaces of Conveyance: Popular Intelligence and Military Capture in the Mediterranean“, to be held in Turin, 27th May – 1st June, 2027.
This is a twofold event at the Beyond Inhabitation Lab that discusses habitability, popular intelligence, and militarist turns in the contemporary urban Mediterranean.
Part 1 consists of a two-day workshop that hosts a maximum of 25 participants, selected through the application process outlined in the open call flier. Twelve travel scholarships will be available. The scope of the workshop is to enable scholars addressing the proposed themes to connect and establish a dispersed working group across the region.
Part 2, which takes place right after the Workshop, consists of a two-day writing Lab for seven selected participants on the Workshop’s themes. Part 2 is by invitation only. The scope of the lab is to produce a collective working text on the themes of the workshop, to structure and open up conversations across and beyond the Beyond Inhabitation Lab.
The deadline for submitting applications for the Workshop is 23rd October, 2026.
You can find all relevant information in the flier below, or download it here.
Please help us circulate this call across the Mediterranean regions, especially toward the South and the East. We look forward to receiving interest from scholars, writers, artists and organisers currently working at the intersection of popular territories, economies and military capture.
